Midnight Demons

When you lay your head to rest at night
and your demons haunt you
in those silent moments before you slip
into sleep’s sweet arms
don’t listen to their calls
don’t let them coax you into their sickly pale hands
for, darling
they will rip you to shreds
and leave you nothing more
than a skeleton
think instead
my love
of the nights we spent awake
killing those demons
with our voices through cracked speakers
and tears in our eyes
